Kittens can be picked up when they are born, Ive had a few cats give birth and I helped out with the birth. Ive always picked them up and cuddled them but not for too long at a time. Kittens like puppies can be weened from their mother at about 6-8 weeks old.

my cat furball had a litter about 4 months ago and we were holding and touching them the first day, just wash your hands and also the cat must trust you, if the mom stops feeding them you can get replacement milk at walmart with little bottles for pretty cheap.... kittens usually feed for 6 weeks, but will continue to as long as she produces but at 6 weeks they are ok to be done feeding. if you need any more helf mail me at baybe_gurl414@yahoo

About 6-7 weeks they should be feeding on soft food and water but still suckling from there mother. At around 7 weeks they should be totally off the mother and that's when you should find them good homes to go to.

I have had cats since i was 6 years old i am currently 16, it is ok to hold them when they are that small, but be carful with them they are very fagile. the mother won't abandon them only if she is a wild cat. however if she is a tame demestic cat then you should beable to hold them as much as you want one of my cats just had kittens a few months ago I always get sad when i have to give them away. Hope this helps and please excuse my grammar/spelling =)

if the cat is yours then you can try and touch them but i say wait another two weeks if she will reject them now you will have to hand feed them.
when the cubs are older the bond with the mom is much stronger.
the best age to give them to future owner is about two and half montes and i advice you to give them two at least at a time it's much easier when there are two cats together. make sure future owner spay them and make sure in about two montes to spay your cat. the more times she will get pregnant the bigger the chances she has of having cancer and uterus infections as she will get older.

I think that it's bird babies you can't touch. Unless you want a litter of feral cats, get them in the house or garage now.

Touch them, talk to them, pick them up.

they are easier to adopt out when they can eat from a dish but when their tails are still a little stubby.

After 2 months you can get them from their mother. They will be big enough, with teeth, ready to eat. And you can also touch them! There's nothing wrong in doing this. I was kissing my kitties, also, but you should be also very careful, they're fragile and don't really like our hugs.
Take care! A big kiss for their mom!
