If you've got a garden get the paddling pool out, hopefully everyone will forget the spots and think of the fun - get a table with little snacks.

try finding local 1 o/c clubs.

explain to other mums (if your not too shy yourself) and see if they can help.

If you was in E3, I'd help by bringing my two around (2+8).

you don't say how old your "wee boy" is?

In the garden set a table of activities - play doh, colouring pencils + paper, mega bloks anything that is too messy (other parents may not appreciate it).

Also try children type banter with them yourself, if you're approachable then they might befriend your son easier.
