An atom consists of a single nucleus, of protons and neutrons, along with electrons orbiting the nucleus.
An atom is not always stable by itself, so it may bond with another atom. Oxygen atoms do not exist separately in nature, but combine into a molecule of two atoms, written O2 (2 is sub-scripted).
The way atoms bond can be predicted by their position in the Periodic Table.

for example O(oxygen) is an atom and O3( i couldnt make the subscript) is a molecule (ozone)
also molecules can be a combination of different atoms like:
H2O(water molecule) H stands for hydrogen and O for oxygen.
