depends what kind of formula it is.
If it's a cream, liquid or tinted moisturizer, a foundation brush is best because sponges absorb too much of the actual foundation and you end up wasting the product... so, with foundation brushes you end up using less product.
Foundation brushes blend and melt the foundation into the skin giving it an airbursh-effect. Sometimes, women go through countless bottles of foundation trying to find the "perfect one" when all they really need is a foundation brush... it makes a world of a difference. It takes a while getting used to using it, though. Just work on small sections of the face at a time, using small back and forth, wispy-blend-like motions. It's not like applying it with your fingers or a spogne where you just apply all over your face at once and keep blending. The difference is you blend as you go. One section at a time. It's best to start in the middle of the face like the forehead, nose and chin and then blend outward toward the ears and hairline.
My favorite foundation brushes are from MAC Cosmetics, Paula Dorf and Lancome.
If you are using a POWDER foundation that is pressed or like a mineral foundation, try just using a disc sponge or a large kabuki brush. The kabuki brush will allow you to use less product and once again, start in the middle of the face and blend outward. Use circular-like motions when blending a powder to "buff" it in.
Fingertips are okay, too, if you're in a hurry, but make sure your foundation matches you perfectly beacuse it's much harder to blend a foundation with your fingertips. it can tend to look "streaky."

a sponge absorbs d make up ur best of to use a foundation brush if ur using liquid or cream foundation then pad out the lines marks if any any start my aplling some to d middle of ur face and work it out towards the edges and apply a loose powder to set it and aviod any coming off. if u use compact then use a sponge dat has been slighty moistened so the make up spreads easily and isnt too heavy apply powder also

Some say with sponge or brush, but I think the most sanitary way is to apply it with your washed and dried fingers. This way, you are sure that what you are putting on your skin is clean.

i think it apply better with a makeup brush because it does goes on to heavy, but then if your using a cream or liquid instead of powder you make have to used a makeup sponge, because some of us have to use cream and liquid foundation because of dry skin
