Yay for you. It's trully beautiful that you've found something so simple to bring joy into your life. So many people are so busy they don't have time to appreciate nature or much of anything else. Enjoy your little friend as long as you can.

That is lovely, and has given me a happy start to the day to think of it!
Blackbirds are great characters, and sing enchantingly. I didn't think they liked bread, so I think this bird must like you, and shows his appreciation by eating the food you give.
I'm not an expert on birds, but I do enjoy their company in the garden. I have two dozy pedigree cats, so this limits me, though I have an arrangement whereby the cats don't go out at all during the winter months, so the birds have free range in my small back garden.
Most of the birds like the balls of fat I hang on branches of the tree - especially bluetits, who are great to watch. There is a pair of blackbirds, who I call Edwin and Edwina, who take a bath in my pond every day! Blackbirds can't manage the fat balls, and like food that I put on the ground for them.
You can tell if your bird is male or female by the colour of their beak. The male blackbird is very handsome with an orange beak. The female is a lighter colour and more plain clothes!
You might want to visit your local garden centre - in the winter, they have a huge range of bird food and will often give helpful information. In the winter wild birds particilarly need food and fresh water as it is often difficult to come by. I start to put food out in October (and keep the cats in!)
There is a special seed mix for blackbirds - though it sounds as if your blackbird has no complaints about what you give him!
I have a theory that birds can commune with humans, and it might be that this bird tunes in to you and thinks of you as special.

The Black Bird will keep coming back as long as you feed it.
We have a pair who trust us so much that they nested in our shed. When we saw the nest we had to leave the door open so that they could get in and out.
My husband built a shelter for a hanging table so that the food does not get wet in winter, He fastened it to the wall outside my kitchen window. Now we have Blue Birds, Wrens, Great ****, Robins and the Black Birds. If we move carefully they don't fly away when we go to the window and it is literally right outside. We can stand right next to the window and watch them. It's as if they know we are not going to harm them.
As for the Black Bird we have no end of laughs watching them trying to eat the fat balls. There is a sloping support that they land on and if they stand at the top they can reach the balls, only problem is they slide down it and then hop back up peck at the ball and slide down again. They will do this for ages.
As for Bagpus calling them flying rats he want to learn the difference between Black Birds and Crows. Some one else said maybe someone was going to pass in the family that is said about Ravens
Build yourself a feeding station and enjoy these lovely little creatures as much as we do.
Ps bread is ok but not too often as it is full of starch, peanuts and wild bird seed is better and not overly expensive. Try the pound shops as they are about the cheapest place to buy the food. Wilkinsons is another good place to go though a little more expensive
Good luck and enjoy these little friends

Lots of garden birds have regular territories that they will defend from other bird, so there is a good chance it is the same bird. I witnessed a two week dispute between two male Blackbirds to see who owned the rights to my garden and the good looking female they were courting. With feeding there is also a good chance that the bird will remember the free meal and appear again and again as we all enjoy a free lunch.
Best of all is just the pure joy of having such a beautiful creature in your garden and the concert that it will sing at dawn and dust to show its appreciation.

It more than likely is the same one as they are territorial. I had a Blackbird in my garden and also pootling around my small area for several years (I can't remember how long) I knew it was the same one because it had two white tail feathers. We called him White Feather, and later he was replaced by a Blackbird with different white feathers, you can guess what we called him.
Male Blackbirds are black and females brown and they are completely harmless.
Oh, and by the way, Blackbirds love to eat snails and slugs and if the snails have been poisoned by slug bait the birds will still eat them and pass the poison into their egg shells which are thinned and collapse. Love birds? - relocate snails and slugs!

Since it's a 'black' bird, I think it's telling you that your garden has soul! lol
Plus, birds are good snake alarms! If you ever have something in your garden that doesn't belong there watch the bird - it will look in the general direction of the problem. Oh yeah, and make sure you have a long handle garden tool to keep whatever it may be at bay, so you can get away. -nature.

Yes blackbirds are very territorial and they will return to the same tree year after year. I firmly believe this is the same bird that visits you each time.

It is definately the same bird, and if it is black then it is a male, if it is dark brown it is a female, that'll help if you decide to give it a name, I have loads of birds in my garden, made boxes, bird table, water table, feeders etc,
I love nature

Aaaahh, you have a new friend.
Give it a name - one that could apply to either gender. All animals are intelligent so I say it is the same bird - it's knows that you will feed it if it hangs around.
Sweet.
