Also what can happen is say an acorn from a scarlet oak get buried smack dab on a pin oak acorn. The two acorns will fuse and above ground it can be one tree. Just a mixture of two very similar oak trees that fused and became one tree. It will share characteristics of both trees.

When you take the genes from two different plants to create one unique species. For example, Broccolini is a recombination of Broccoli & Asparagus. Here is a pic, notice the thin long stem of asparagus attached to the head of broccoli:
