-Fireworks
-Picnic basket
-Picnic blanket
-Some cool outdoor thing related to sports (soccer ball or something?)
-Dart board?

hmm...considering that u'd be celebrating Independence Day, maybe a patriotic gift is a good idea? I would go with a sculpture representing freedom

I would buy my friend an outfit similar to one I would be wearing and we would go out to a bar-b-cue. To watch fireworks and hang out.
