Washington DC was made to impress foreign dignetaries with the White House as a centre piece. Why then not name the road it is on... uhm America lane, or Constitution alley?

The capitol used to be in Philadelphia. When they moved it, they named the street Pennsylvania as a consolation for moving it from Philadelphia...which is in Pennsylvania.

They named the various streets in Washingtron, D. C. after states. The White House is on PENNSYLVANIA Ave.
