I live in an Islamic country and i can understand your feeling of what it is like to have no holiday on this ouspicious day. Read this passage below and see what someone staying like you has to say :
Muslims in my country come from different backgrounds. We don’t get any holidays for our celebrations like Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha. Non-muslims in my country don’t know much about our religion. So, we have to teach them. We have to be good representatives of our religion. We have to help out non-Muslims in our workplaces, schools or anywhere else. We should behave in a proper manner towards them. We should be good to our neighbours even if they are non-Muslims, so that they see how beautiful our religion is. If you give a bad impression about yourself, it will give a bad impression on your religion. Therefore, you should be a good representative of your religion.
Even though the majority of my country is not Muslim, I still have to practice my religion in the proper way. I have to read five times salah daily and perform other duties like reciting the Qur’an. Just because the people around you don’t perform the same religious duties does not mean that you should abandon your Islamic duties. Allah has placed us in this world for a test. He wants to see how you follow your religion, the true religion and that you follow it in the proper way. If you do that, Allah will give you the gift of Jannah.
So, remember that even if the people around you are not Muslim, you still have to follow your religion and represent Islam in a good way to non-Muslims, so that they see how good Islam is. These were some facts about Muslims in my country Canada and how we should work towards a better life in our country.

My suggestion is that you should not feel let down or sad, take the day off, gather all your friends or relatives if you have in your house. Go shopping .Prepare for the party before hand and prepare delicious dishes for this day. Pray the eid salaah wearing your beautiful attire together . Then wish each other as you all do here in our Islamic countries. If you know your neighbours , you can even send them from what you have prepared. If you have young ones give them Eidy ( i hope you know whats this ) then you can go out and have a nice time later on during the day. All these things will give you happiness and the feeling of EID. If you are unable to give a sacrifice in the place where you are living and you wish to give one, you can according to your conveniency send money and ask your relatives in your home land to do it on your behalf.Try to celebrate eid more or less the same way as you do here , and INSHAHALLAH it will be easy. MAY ALMIGHTY ALLAH BLESS YOU.

I've lived in America for most 'Eids, and we also take off the day from work or school and celebrate a good long day with our friends and family. And remember Allah throughout by making dhikr (rememberance of Allah) and thanking Him for the many blessings He has granted us.
In London, we did the same.
In Indonesia, the whole country takes off (and it's sooo awesome and beautiful - the streets are just FULL of Muslims!) :)
In Malaysia, I don't really remember - but we got a holiday and went out with family.
In Saudi, during Hajj, of course we get to know that everyone is sacrificing that day! :)
In Pakistan, unfortunately, during 'Eid al Adha, a lot of the streets are filled with leftovers of sacrifices - most people don't like to go out!
Those are all the places I know that I've celebrated 'Eid. :)

in south africa, cape town we used to visit all the neighbours who were muslim and wish them a happy eid, then in the evening we'd go to family and everyone would be there just getting together and catching up. oh, we also used to get lil gifts or money from the neighbours and family but that was generally to the younger kids. i eventually grew out of that so no more money for me.. and eventually it'd be my turn to give lil gifts and stuff
in new zealand i found eid a bit boring. we'd go to the mosque for eid prayer, then later we'd get together usually after people finished work coz they couldnt get the day off. but that was boring coz it all felt like strangers. i didnt have family in NZ and neither did many of the otehr families so it wasnt that great. it was just friends catching up on a day.
some of the other cultures like the iraqis organised sports and so on for them.
i'm yet to have a eid here in aussie so i'll find that out soon enough
