....or is that just the rantings of greedy studio's who are p*ssed that someone somewhere is depriving them of an infinitessimal percentage of their obscenely bloated pie?

I mean does piracy really fund organised crime and drug rings? If so surely the percentage of money made that does is pretty small.

The truth is, if I were to pirate a movie then I'm not depriving anyone of anything because if I hadn't pirated it then I probably wouldn't have bought it or paid to see it anyway.

Personally I think the economy that exists in the industry of movie making where actors get paid millions is absolutely ludicrous...

What do you think?

Pirated movie's effect is felt not just by the independent moviemakers and the film crews than by the big studio bosses and actors. What happens is that a big blockbuster movie -- say Titanic-- makes just a bit less money like $300 million instead of $400 million, but smaller movies, which already make a lot less in theaters and rentals, will have such a small profit or even be a loss, that studios will no longer find them worth their time and investement to make. Studios will bet only on movies that are pretty much guaranteed to make big bucks, even when taking piracy into account. Big action movies and sequels would be pretty much it. No more smaller jewels or "artsy" movies like "El Mariachi" or "The Thin Red Line" or "Reservoir Dogs" or anything by Martin Scorsese.
So less movies made, less work to go around for sound tecnicians, camera operators, starting actors, editors, electricians, new directors, script writers, etc. And in the end, less choice for us.

It is ludicrous. I don't find anything wrong with movie piracy.
I don't think it has a big affect on the movie industry either.
I say about 85% of the population doesn't have the time or money, they just go in and see the movie and 7 months later they buy the DVD.....the other 20% are the 'somewhat smart ones' that'll take the movie and make money.
That sounds pretty weird about the organized crime and drug rings....that is spooky....

I strongly agree. The prices of movies are rediculous alone ($20.00) for 2 hours of entertainment. And the fact that actors are being paid millions to go on stage, say a few lines, move around, and show some emotion, is just insane. I'm not saying that they don't work because believe me, I know how tough it is. But it's less work than say.... basically anyone who makes less than 10million per gig. piracy i think should be viewed as more of a way that maybe.... eventually.... sometime, actors can get paid less, and our economy won't be so damn screwed over every time we watch the news. (Bush isn't helping it either)

this really does affect the actors. An anonymous well known actor couldn't buy a gold plated jacuzzi and bar. Instead he had too wait a couple of Weeks. NOW SAY TO MY FACE YOU DON'T FEEL SICK TO YOUR STOMACH. I hope you learnt your lesson.

No. Most people I know that do it only copy movies that they would never buyh anyway.
