Yes, they should. I know a lot of people don't want to hear it, but they were the definitive rock band of the '80s. Without Def Leppard, there would have been no '80s rock scene. Without all the bands trying to be Def Leppard in the '80s, grunge and alternative wouldn't have gotten so big in the '90s. Like it or not, Def Leppard are musical pioneers as much as Nirvana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, or Black Sabbath.

Def Leppard is a truly creative band. Anybody who judges them by "Pour Some Sugar On Me," is clueless. Listen to the "Slang," album, and THEN tell me they're not a brilliant band. That is one of the most creative albums ever written by any band. Anybody who says they don't like any Def Leppard music obviously hasn't heard all of Def Leppard's music. They have something for just about everyone (save country, rap, techno, etc. fans).

They have been touring and recording constantly since they formed in 1977. Every album they release has it's own unique sound, but it still manages to sound like Def Leppard.

So yes, like it or not, Def Leppard is in the same league as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Who, Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. The just haven't been around for QUITE as long. Give it a few more years, and the name "Def Leppard," will be listed right alongside all the other great classic rock bands.

What only has 9 arms and sucks? hehe
I grew up with bands like Def Leppard, and I was even a fan during the 8th grade. The influence they had on music at the time was much greater than the actual quality of music. I respect the band, but I grew out of their style a long time ago and do not own any of their albums now. So as far as being one of the best bands ever? No, not even close in my book. The best bands are those who can stand the test of time, and I believe they fall short of that.

Def Leppard should go down in an ocean liner; that's about it.
