Really great question! I always bring two boxes of matches, 3 Bic lighters, a friend with a SPARKLING personality, and last but not least a boy scout! One of those usually works! Or I can send the friend or boyscout for warmer jackets!

As you said CAN.

One match also can light a campfire. You know this because the last match did light the camp fire. Who knows how many matches didn't cause a bush fire? Maybe as much as 2 boxes?

If so you are still in front with only 1 box. :)

To save time I would suggest next time to thow out all but 1 match. You are bound to light the camp fire in 1 go.

One careless match or cigarette in really dry conditions with some wind will provide really devastating affects. On the other hand, whenever you need to light a camp fire the elements are often less than ideal, 'green wood' is usually the biggest problem to get started. You can save all your matches by taking a can a diesel with you on your camping trips. a couple liters of diesel and one match is all it takes. Good luck.

I see that many careless matches are dropped every day, but they are not all dropped on the same spot so it does take one match to start a bush fire. Good question.
Perhaps you should try lighting the camp fire by carelessly tossing a match on it.

Forest Fires are generally started in very dry conditions in things like dry grass, leaves, pine needles, Etc. There is also a possibility of a wind blowing too. All of these are conducive to starting a forest fire. Your camp fire is usually being started using wet wood or tinder. It takes a lot of heat to get a fire started in a camp fire to dry the fuel out. The fuel for a forest fire is already very dry.

Because when you have to start a camp fire, you know you want to start it, you espect it to start, but it dosen`t always, you keep trying to light it but it will not start, because the wood is wet or you do not have enough leaves, or paper, ho knows why, but when a bush fire starts it`s most of the times beacuse of human fault, after trying and trying to start a camp fire you wouln`t think that one light would start a fire that could burn down a forest, interesting concept.

dry bushes are often starved of water, and that's what burns easiest. Wood doesn't burn so easily, because it's usually retaining at least some water. That's why bush fires and forest fires are easier to start than fires with firewood.

That would depend on where you are. Those California brush fires are different from those humid New York outings. Also, you aren't going to burn leaves, and dry leaves are a key ingredient in certain forest fires.

You obviously need help in building camp fires! It should only take one match, preparation is everything.

You must realize that thousands of improperly disposed matches and cigarettes are tossed out of cars every day. Many more than a "whole box" of matches.
