First it is Free-Masons. Second, they are called free because of a time when the ancient Masons were slaves. They were not free to travel, to work other places or to own anything until they reach a certain level. It is also important to know that what they charge is used to help with poor projects in the community.

I recently met a guy who claimed to be a Free Mason. He had an interesting suggested reading list:
1) Give War a Chance
2) In Defense of Internment
