There are 16 lakes in England's Lake District, which is a national park, is located entirely in the county of Cumbria. The area was best known for the Lake Poets, a group of poets and writers from that corner of England in the early 19th century led by William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey (all Romanticists).
