yes - very normal. For me, it shows up when i view properties of my connection.
Normally just means how much data (Like Pages, images etc) were sent to AND from your connection. So, every site that loads, you'll see that # increase.

I have always 'disabled' the connection, then 'enabled' it to 'refresh' the packet counter.
