and i mean takes corners, accelerates (not necessarily 0-60 time), and over all performs great. Show a viper (corvette, XLR) a corner and it has no idea what to do. Muscle power aside the car must perform as a daily driver and a weekend "racer". Jeez you gotta get specific with these question....

A C6 Corvette, Z06 or not, will hand any BMW under $100K its a$$, even the M3. An RS4 will also beat an M3 in most competition.

(Consider the M5 and M6 to be over $100K, out the door)

Regarding some of the other answers...
- performance-wise, an Elise is comparable to an M3, and no one in their right mind would consider the Elise a daily driver.
- The 350Z comes nowhere near the M3 in performance or comfort.
- Ditto for the RX-8 (third gen RX-7?).
- Nothing in Lexus or Infiniti's lines comes close

Both the STi and Evolution are also comparable to the M3 - slightly behind in terms of performance but much cheaper.

I highly suggest just to stick with a BMW go with a M5 or even an M6 if you can find one. If not go with the M3s or just wait for the the new 335 turbo coupes. Besides that the Z06s are really nice. 505hp and great handling. There always Audi with their S4s but take a look at the RS6. Very nice 450hp very luxuries interior just like an M5 but 50 less horses.

i would say wait till 07 lexus, infiniti are both releasing new models. BMW is upgrading there M3 from a 6 to 8 cylinders. Infiniti is fainlly going to release the Skyline but it will be called GTR, Lexus is also releasing a car but their details i'm not sure about, but if you want something under 40 g's i say Infiniti G35 their called 3 series killers for a reason.
