Time changes all things. We speak English here in America, but it is somewhat different than British English, or English spoken in South Africa, New Zealand, or many of the other former British Colonies. Heck, people in New York speak different than people in Dalas, Texas. We understand each other, but over the years, the people in the south have developed a slighly different intonation, different slang, even different usages of the same words. This is how humans in different areas of the world developed speaking different languages.

Time and geography in old times created different languages. The globalization of the world is interestingly brining those languages back together (most people around the world know the meanings of the words like Karate, Video, Auto, Amen, Coffee)

The tower of Babel. People got arrogant thinking that they could build a tower that would reach up to God, so God punished them by making everyone speak different languages. They all separated into groups and that's where it started. Before that, everyone had the same language. This is all in the Bible if you want to do further research.

Several good books on that subject, if your into research, biblical speaking, God chose to do it to stop human development and to scatter humans.
The strange thing about language is even the most primitive groups have very complex language structure and vocabulary far in excess of what they should have. In fact our language is less complex then in the past. Language may have similar roots, and can be broken down into several families as base languages, the real crux of the problem is how did we create such a complex structure as language in the first place? I favor creation, and the Devinne gift of language, and that the foundation of all language comes from one source.

God made it so that no man could understand the other man, so the building of the Tower came to a halt and this is why we all speak different languages.they could not understand each other so it was called Bable. According to the bible. It happened when all of humans tried to build The Tower of Babel. They were trying to build something so tall it reached to heaven. Because they thought they could be like, or among God. So all of a sudden he made them speak different languages so they could not understand each other. Those who spoke the same language departed with each other and dispersed among "Pangea" which broke away. Or so I believe.

Before humans built the tower of Babel they all spoke the same language: They built the tower in the attempt to touch the face of God:
God was not pleased at all with this: His plan for mankind was for them to spread all over the world, and multiply and be fruitful. His remedy for dispersing them, and causing them to spread all around the world was to do what is in the scriptures below:

That always confused me. According to the Bible, it was because of the Tower of Babel. But yeah I don't know. Language has always confused me. Like how did the first language start? People just began making noises and suddenly understood eachother and it happened to make a logical language. :/

Hi, well it started it out with the generation that built the tower to rebel against G-D. They all united against G-D. To prevent such a thing from occuring again, G-D spread them out into seventy different languages so they won't be able to understand eachother. For example: if one asked for a hammer the other would think he meant that he wants him to hit him, so they would never be able to work together.
