I remember James said this song was about him meeting his ex. If you understand that, the end becomes very obviously. He has no plan to be with her again.

I heard that in REAL LIFE that song's singer, James Blunt, had an affair. Maybe that was his plan? He might be a cheating S.O.B. - his plan might have been hey I can't and shouldn't be with her but what the heck I am going to get her anyway.
