I need to move at the end of July - looking for specifics on rates. I've looked up budget, penske, and uhaul and am trying those things where you load it. I don't get any relocation help from my new job. Have a truck that either needs to be towed behind a rental or I'll drive it if a company takes my things...

Sounds like you have done your homework as far as do-it-yourself moving is concerned. Seems like the next step is to get some prices from long distance movers. They will quote your move based on mileage, volume, and approximate weight. The second and third variable make it tough to provide a cost estimate as an answer. Naturally, you will have to get estimates, add the cost of fuel to drive your vehicle across country, and run the numbers for all of your options.

Keep in mind that long distance moving companies often maximize the efficience of their trucks by arranging to move two or more smaller loads on one truck. In effect, you end up sharing the over-the-road costs of making the move with others. The sooner you give the long distance movers a call, the likelier it is that they can put a trip together.

Good luck with your move.

I used UHaul but if you do this make sure you look at the truck 1st!!! One truck they gave us was new, one was a stick shift piece o junk that barely ran, it died after 200 miles.
