I think to each their own. Doesn't effect anyone but the people who make an issue out of it. Live and let live.

Well, um, speaking from experience.

If I'm reading your question correctly, then the simplest answer is of course, yes.

It has an effect on society, just as everything else does. And yes, it can easily have an effect on a family, but then again, so do a great number of things.

In our history on this planet, humans have gone through quite a number of social changes.

These changes are based on the area where one lived and they then evolved over time as the culture itself evolved. This evolution sometimes caused one culture to take over or even politely merge with another culture, causing some interesting and world affecting changes.

Throughout our history, different cultures have had their own taboos, their own laws and belief systems, etc. Sometimes something that was ok one year was not so ok the next, and vice versa.

That being said...

If we go back far enough, homosexuality was actually quite accepted as a regular part of society. The romans and greeks for example, were very much into relationships and love no matter the sex...well at least as far as men were concerned (my history breaks down in this area for situations regarding womens interests) and in fact what we would consider pedophilia today was openly practiced back then.

Marriages took place in medieval times (and further back) between people who were very young, people were hung or killed without a trial, raping of your enemies womenfolk was considered acceptable after a battle, etc. All things that we don't accept now.

Our society will continue to evolve, going down whatever path people feel, as a whole, to be acceptable. Bathing suits for women used to be nearly full body, now they are nearly gone for many women. As late as the 50's, a womens place was in the home, all men wore suits and hats, and children would be regularly beaten if they disobeyed their parents.

Now...well as you can guess, most of the above seems silly to people living now.

As late as the 50's and even the 60's, black people were treated poorly, as second hand citizens. And thank heavens, things have changed for the better.

The acceptance of everyone in our society as an equal partner in how the society is formed and managed is a big step that we are working towards. Someday, hopefully in my lifetime, we will see everyone in our society (I'm talking about those that are part of our society, not criminals who have given up their rights by violating societies laws) treated as equals.

Gay couples make great parents (no better or worse than hetero couples), they love and hurt just like everyone else, they desire (from society and life) the same basic hierarchy of needs (food, clothing, shelter and then the higher ones all the way to self awareness), and thus they should be treated like everyone else with the same rights.

Love, as always,

Sebastian

My thoughts on this might be different from the typical point of views, some believe that it is genetic and some believe it is a choice. These views do not factor in reincarnation.........When you have chosen to come to earth many times as a man you will like women so what happens when you choose to be a woman that cell memory always carries on to the next life so it would be completely natural to be a man and be attracted to men. It does effect the family & society because homosexuality has yet to be understood. People think it is wrong because that is what they have been TOLD for 1000's of years.

Homosexuality has a greater effect on family and society than it should have. People say it's bad because it says so in the Bible, but people do other things that are considered bad in the Bible. People steal things, kill people, cheat on their wives/husbands, and many other things. So, in my opinion, homosexuality should just become regarded as a daily part of the American world. It's not like saying that it is wrong is going to make all the homosexuals say "Well Gee-o-me I'm going to be straight again!".

Homosexuality is completely natural and it's not a choice. There are homosexual animals. Homosexuality has always existed. The individuals who deny the truth of science that speaks to homosexuality being normal, are the same people that attempted to use science to prove that homosexuality was a sickness.

Some the stereotypes about homosexuals are a direct result of the oppression that we experience. For example, if you live in a society where you have to hide your sexuality, hiding becomes a norm for you. If your society does not support your relationship, then it makes sense that young gays grow up without the expectation that they will ever have a long term relationships. It should be noted that there are links to high rates of suicide, drug use, survival sex, and HIV infection among young gay men and women who are kicked out and abandoned by their families.

Despite every effort made throughout the history of this country to "stamp out" the gay issue, gay people continue to exist. Fortunately, no amount of hatred or ignorance will get rid of us.

What has helped gays gain more freedom in the US is when folks stand up and be counted....coming out. If people are constantly reminded that we exist, then they must deal with us. I hope that the people--str8 and gay--who are saying that "this doesn't affect me" remember that they have siblings, children and other family members who may be in turmoil because the people that they love have chosen not to be "affected" by them.

I feel that true homosexuality is something that is born in you. I know of three who are my relatives and they were not treated differently. I think some people now, such as girls, are into making out for show and are not truly homosexuals. What amazes me is that many of the men who like to watch two women together claim to be againt homosexuality or gays.

It can have affects in the family and society, but only on those who can't accept it. Many often think it can influence children, but I really do not see how as I believe we are born with our sexuality
.
Straight men more often have such a hard time accepting homosexuality in their children. I am a Christian, but I am not to judge who is a sinner...only God can do that.

Yes, it can effect young adults going through puberty to suddenly find out that their mom likes your friend Johnny's mom for more than friends. We're talking role modeling. It can get sticky and hairy. ;)Sorry for the pun. LOL I guess that it's not a very easy subject, given that tolerance is PC. Rome fell...at the height of sexual indiscretion. Look at history. Every great civilization falls when the sexual roles get blurred. Maybe an anthropologist will elaborate...

I love homosexuals. Though I don't condone their behavior the bible does say that sin is sin, but I believe there's a difference between sinning and having an entire lifestyle which promotes it. I also don't understand why they have gay pride parades, I don't get to have a festival for being straight.

well,I have not much to say.My perception to this question is that 'homosesexuality'is EVIL and totally bad to man's life probably AIDS is generated from this act. Apart God prohibiting this nonsense deed, the great effect of it to family and the entire world is being the "godfather" of all other kinds of disease. So,bear with me and take to God's decision partaining this topic.
