Yes, about 13 years ago. My girlfriend and I lived next door to a woman who shared her apartment with her 12 year old mentally challenged daughter. Her husband left her suddenly for some biker chick; the divorce and life as a single parent with such a child was a heartbreaking struggle.

One night, she pounded on our door and rushed in, frantic with excitement--uttering she had just won the lottery, holding a ticket to her chest. My girlfriend and I were stunned, but we confirmed our neighbor won $5 million dollars! It was good for us to see a deserving person win such money.

She took heed of my cautionary legal advice and protected her winnings from her scumbag ex husband....who didn't take long to buzz by; all his legal attempts at grabbing her money failed--flat!

Our millionairess neighbor had to leave to a new neighborhood; one where she could live in peace. But she was grateful for all we did years earlier---and paid off the balances of cars my girlfriend and I struggled to pay notes on; something we didn't ask for, but it was a nice gesture.

And like a fairy tale, she married a decent good moral man and they all lived happily ever after.

Depends on your definition of "significant"...I won $500 bucks once, and I know someone else who won $1,000. I find both of those amounts to be "significant".

It depends on what you consider "significant." I know a guy who won several million and was practically broke a few years later. That's quite common, apparently.
