There are some of us who do and love the game!!!!
But in general, Americans are, well, let me put it this way, they voted for and re-elected Bush-need I say more.
They just don't get it.
And ABC hardly shows any games because they can't show commercials when the action is 45 minutes non-stop.
Even the U.S. sportscasters don't know how to broadcast the games. It is very sad.
I am even thinking of moving to another country-this one doesn't appreciate a lot. They even destroy the quality of food by genetically engineering it for purposes of greed.

I watch the World Cup, and some MLS (U.S. top soccer league). Having said that, there are at least a few reasons, some of which have already been mentioned.

1. Soccer (football) is a low-scoring game. Americans tend to prefer high-scoring games. Even in the sports we like, Americans tend to get unhappy when scoring goes down from time to time.

2. The U.S. national team is not highly successful, American players are not prominent in the world, and the American league (MLS) is not one of the world's best leagues. Americans like to watch successful teams and great players.

3. Other sports and leagues rose to prominence in the U.S. before soccer could. Baseball, American football, and basketball are particularly popular, and more so in the U.S. than in most other countries. So with other sports and leagues being strongly followed, there is little room left for soccer. Notice, for example, how we Americans have to call Association football "soccer", not because of ignorance, but because our own brand of football became popular first.

Of course, with just about 300 million Americans, there are still very many soccer fans here even if most of the country does not follow it.

It isn't fast paced enough for us. We are used to sports where people are constantly getting into fights, bleeding, swearing, yelling, and getting hurt. Those things entertain us more.
