Best is a subjective term, and each person will have their own reasons for saying that a car is best.
When you compare the cars from the 40's, 50's, and 60's to the cars from the 90's up, you will notice two major things. One is that the older cars were built with heavier metal, and plastic was not used much.
The second thing is the older cars were easier to work on, but required much more actual maintenance. The newer cars go much further without tuneups, and other major engine repairs.
You have to decide what you consider to be important to you, and then figure which car is the one that you consider "best".
One of my favorites was the 69 Dodge Dart. With the 225 CID (slant six) engine and automatic transmission, you got acceptable gas mileage and the motor was bulletproof. It was very hard to wear out a slant six, many cab companies used them for 350,000 miles or more.

Correct up there surely needs to be the Volvo 240 Sequence, Saab 900, or even Mercedes 240 0r three hundred Diesel. There are recorded Benz Diesels with on the million miles in it. These things never appear to wear out. Volkswagen Golf and Jetta appear to run forever too. Talked to a man with 465, 000 KILOMETRES. (290, 000 kilometers) on their '85 Jetta, as well as had no engine work done however. Last Volvo I'd, clocked 400, 000 KILOMETRES. Also no engine work. Sold this, and it's nevertheless being driven.

That's a tough one...I'd go for the '58 Cadillac, but the '49 Mercury gives it a run for its money. I also happen to favor the '58 and '59 Chevrolets too. There's several Cadillacs from the 60's that don't really have good style but had some very innovative stuff such as automatic climate control (in '64!). There's a ton of good ones, it just depends on your definition of "Best".

No specific year, but trucks. Trucks perform multi functions. They haul people and material. They tow objects. They are the do-all automobiles. They work and play. Everyone has probably needed one at least a few times in their lives.
