First, lets hope that you arent standing in front of a hurricane. Second, think about this. Hurricanes typically go counter-clockwise. Thus more power is coming from the source of the hurricane, or the eye as its called. The right side will be coming from the middle, and it will have more power, coming towards you. The left side will be going away from you. And no one will be standing behind a hurricane, that would place you in the middle of the ocean...

If you look at a map, with north at the top, of a hurricane in the northern hemisphere, the right (or eastern) part, will typically have slightly less rain and slightly higher winds. As most hurricanes move generally east to west, it's also the second half to hit any particular location, so any rain or winds will cause more destruction to an already damaged area. This is the half that comes after the "eye." In fact, the most destructive part of a hurricane is the "eye wall," or the area directly in the center of the storm, but any part of a hurricane can be destructive.

Hurricanes/typhoons form in the tropics NEAR the equator, where the Coriolis Force causes tropical cyclone to begin its spin. (This natural force causes water to spin CLOCKWISE when it goes down a drain.) All hurricanes/typhoons spin clockwise due to the earth’s rotational force.
The right side of a hurricane packs more punch because the WIND SPEED + the hurricane SPEED-OF-MOTION are complimentary there. On the left side, the hurricane's speed of motion subtracts from the wind speed.

That depends from which side, right to left or left to right, the hurricane spins. If it swils from the right side to the left side, naturally the right sided swilling would be more powerful than the left, as it retards in moving to that side. But if that swils from left to the right side, the position will be opposite. Which side is destructive depends upon the starting side of spinning.

Even if the right side is more destructive than the left, the left side is enough to toss you into the air about 200 feet at 40mph which will kill you anyway.

Mother Nature is not something that should be taken as a joke. We saw less than a year ago how seriously destructive She is.
