I feel this question is coming from you heart. It is truly very sad that hard-working and honest people are forced to end their lives because of poverty or loss.

Why they commit suicide? It is nearly impossible for average farmers to manage all costs without taking loan. Agriculture has many expenses: Good quality seeds are necessary if you want a reasonable yield. You need fertilizers, pesticides, technology, water facility and many such things for good yields. This costs a lot of money and farmers, who live in villages and depend on agriculture for living find it difficult to raise this huge amount of money without loans. So, they are forced to take huge loans with the hope of a good crop. Unfortunately, when they don't get satisfactory yield, they will neither be able to repay the debt, not keep paying interest, because they also have to support a family with the money you get from agriculture. You know very well that crops and agricultural products don't get you gold. Tough competition from MNCs also these days. People would rather go for packed and cleaned products.

So with all these, and because of problems like absence or rain, if they do not get back what they invested, they will be running at loss. In villages they usually have a huge family to support. Moving to cities in search of jobs will not help either, because they might not have education or work experience.

They are usually people who live with dignity. It is hard to keep running because of the loan. They, unfortunately, turn to death,

Why they don't find someone to help? That is a very innocent question. But ideally speaking, you are right, we spend thousands of money for comfort... some people spend money only to be updated with the most modern furniture, most luxurious houses, the best cars in the market whether or not they need it. And you know how our big people eat money! It is not wrong to live the way we want, but if we think of our unfortunate brothers and spend only 2% of the money we waste, the world will be a better place to live in, in no time. But that doesn't happen. People who want to help have no means and people who have means are mean and do not help. I feel irritated to see so many weight reduction centers in a country like ours which is still struggling to fight poverty.

But then, nobody can be forced to help. Most people try to earn and save more and more to eventually increase their standard of living. So, you cannot expect them to lend.

And from the point of view of farmers, how will they ask for help? Who will they ask? How will they ask somebody to give them money to live, given they are doubtful of whether they will repay it in their lifetime? People who don't want to live under the ehsaan of others will think dying is better.

Life looks sooooo disgusting at times. The people who come from well-to-do families should thank their luck hundred times everyday! Thanks for this question. It helped me thank my luck!
God bless....

Are you talking about American Indians? or India, Indians?
I'm just wonderring if drugs or alcohol come into play anywhere in there life? I'm not being disrespectful, it's just I KNOW that it's WAY too difficult to make decisions doing EITHER of them. You GET the those that erode your thinking through hard times too. But, by FAR, drugs and ALCOHOL do it FAR more than hard times. Just pray for the peace of mind, for them. Tough times can come to ANYONE. I heard that EVERYONE is 1 week from living on the street! I think what's key, possibly, is not shaming yourself for being where you are, and climbing out of it!!

Honestly I believe that those farmer suicide numbers are fudged. Only a percent of those reported figures are actually real suicides.
