I'm getting along really well with this girl at work, we share a lot of interests and a similar background. Basically I enjoy her company, but I have trouble getting coworkers to the friend stage. Usually they're always too busy but I feel this person is different.

Hmmm. . . tough one. I need some help in this area myself. I recently had a co-worker do this successfully with me, and in that case, she just started suggesting occasional get-togethers outside of work. For example, if we were talking about movies, she'd mention one she wanted to see and ask if I wanted to go with her. Just take one of your common interests and use that as a leverage point to get the friendship off the ground.

The best way to go about that is to get a group of you together if that's possible...
That way it wont be awkward and you can still hang out with just her...
If that doesn't work, find out some of her interests and see if any of them are public.... For example museum or zoo... Then all you have to do is say that you want to go see the new _____ whatever it is and do it...
Good luck

Just invite her to lunch or coffee after work. Just go slowly. It's the best way to do it at work unless you have a lot practice. Take your time.

You know what they say...don't mix business with pleasure. Although I think it's kinda fun. Well you definately have to take her out on non-business hours, then just let her know.

Forgive me, are you a girl or a guy?

Girl, see if she wants to get some food after work.

Guy, take it slower than that.

Ask her to lunch casually. Be like, "hey, I've heard of this great place, let's head over on our lunch break" or something.
