Anyone know a sure fire way to introduce myself without looking like a dork

Maybe just go over and say hi?
You don't say what kind of bar scene, like is it dance, nightclub, laid back, loud, ...?
Whatever. In general, in a bar, simplest is best.Too much effort usually equals too much pressure. Just say hello, and take it from there. If she or he is interested, you'll find out and if yes, well and good, and if no, it doesn't make you a dork for trying a friendly hello.
Now trot on over there, or you'll go home wondering!

I was always very shy about that sort of thing too. Personally I think sending a drink is TACKY! When I was out and about and wanting to meet someone I did my best to make eye contact and then smile and that usually worked - people can tell when you are shy and usually they will break the ice.
However one time I did approach a guy. I had noticed him across the bar and he really just had the nicest smile. I approached him while I was going to get a drink and said "Pardon me, I just wanted to tell you that you have a beautiful smile." I was just being honest and sincere. I wasn't back with my group of friends 2 minutes before he was over there talking to me.

I can't assure you of not looking like a dork, but the willingness to purchase a drink has worked for many years. The general courtesy is for the recipient to thank the giver, and a conversation may ensue. Be prepared...

Send a drink first, have the waitress point you out when she delivers the drink. If the person is interested, they will come talk to you.

DONT be embarressed, if they think that your new at picking people up they'll walk all over you!! be confident walk over say hey, my names__________ and dont miss a beat after you get there name compliment them!! make them feel like you think that they are attractive!! make sure you look them in the eye!! and most important MAKE SURE THEIR NOT WITH SOMEONE!!! that is really important! if thier with someone they'll probly just laugh, but hey all you really have to do is be confident!!!!!!!

Just go up and say "hi my name is ________. Can I buy you a beer?" No one will turn down a free drink. Then you two can talk.
