Well, the first problem is the fact that we feel the need to label and categorize music in specific genre's. Heck, I don't know that, we the fans need to, but the tv stations and especially the radio stations have to, because they are providing a product on a specific format to a target audience.
Unfortunately, there is no longer a format for current/new regular old rock'n roll music. There are stations for new pop, new hip hop, new heavy tunes, 70's rock, soft rock, old country, new country and so forth.
If Big and Rich, Montgomery Gentry even Toby Keith, would have come out in the 70's, they would have been played on the rock stations right along with the Allman Bros, Lynard Skynard, Marshall Tucker, etc. Likewise, if the older bands were coming out today, they would probably be picked up as country bands, because there is no forum for new, good rock'n roll like this.
Country is still country. There is plenty of new, good real-live country music. Unfortunately for you, fortunately for some of us, that like both kinds of tunes, it is buried on tv and the radio with Big'n Rich, Shooter Jennings, Montgomery Gentry, etc.
Remember, Vinnie Paul of Pantera wears a cowboy hat, and you are never going to hear Cowboys from H**l on the country station!
Look, I love every kind of music from early George Jones, Merle Haggard to the Allman Brothers to Widespread Panic to Guns 'n Roses, Motley Crue to Meatloaf, NWA, Snoop and 50.
Maybe my appreciation for it all jades my opinion, but I have to believe that the fact that peeps who play guitars and sing melodies have no other outlet to expose the public to their new tunes is why country music has pulled them in. I mean, c'mon Jimmy Buffett and John Bon Jovi are on the country stations these days!

I understand your question about how country music has really become different from what everyone is use to.Like for example I saw that David Lee Roth is singing country music.I personally like the older stuff, like Reba,Martina. The new country music is more country pop, than actual country.Give me the older country music, and I am a happy camper!

Ya, I agree. Kid Rock is definately not country. I love Big & Rich though, but they are more rock & roll than country.

I agree with you- but you shouldn't be writing here- you should be writing to CMT and your local country music stations. Tell all your friends and family to write and call and complain. The squeaky wheel gets the oil!
