Because the emotion is overwhelming and the body can not handle it inside, so it uses tears as a release valve. This goes for happy, sad, angry, it does not matter. If the feeling is too much for the mind and body to take, that release comes to the rescue. If people keep their emotions bottled up inside when they feel the tears coming on, the body may react in other ways, perhaps diarrhea, hives, and more long term - ulcers or high blood pressure. Crying is good for both genders, but men have been pushed not to do so in some countries.

Same reason you cry when you are sad. Does it make sense that salt water pours from your eyes when a family member dies. I t has to do with you body trying to counter act high chemical levels in the brain by wash ing out salt and water from the body.

I don`t know, never happened to me. I may get teary eyed, but don`t cry. People cry when very emotional, sad OR happy. kind of like getting the chills when you`re creeped out.
