About 180 degrees.
Government: Conservatives want little, especially with regard to taxes and the right to bear arms. Liberals want lots, especially with regard to social programs and welfare.
Fiscal: Conservatives want to cut taxes. Liberals want to tax everyone. And they want to keep adding more taxes.
Environment: Liberals want to change current industrial practices which threaten forests, rivers, oceans, and anything else in nature. Conservatives want to do the same, only are realistic about the timeline such widerange/global changes would take. In the meantime, C.s are willing to tear up U.S. soil for energy sources rather than relying so heavily on foreign resources.
Military: Conservatives want U.S. soil, its inhabitants and the country's economic interests to be protected to the utmost degree. Liberals want the same but aren't willing to commit troops to do it. Nor are they willing to spend big bucks to make sure we have the best technology to "get 'er done."
Constitution: Conservatives want to preserve and retain the traditional long-standing interpretations of the Constitution. Liberals feel that the Constitution is more fluid and dynamic than C.s care to concede. They want the Constitution to change to reflect current social practices and morés (not the least of which are abortion and gay unions).
You get the idea. But also understand that these are generalizations based on extremes. I think there are far more moderates on both sides than either side is willing to admit or countenance.
By the way, if this is for a homework assignment, you better make sure you do more research and have plenty more examples. This is in no way an exhaustive list of differences. I've barely scratched the surface.
Note to superfish: First off, this isn't an attack...it's just a challenge of one of your statements. (Sometimes "tone" doesn't come across well in writing.) Conservatives don't think taxes are wrong. We're more than willing to pay our fair share, but what we don't want is MORE taxes. When will it end? When we become a socialist country whereby we're taxed 50% or more of our incomes? No thank you. And yes, we should feel obligated to take care of other people who are in need...but that should be a personal choice, because not everybody holds to that particular value. (The exception in my book is health care for children...I'd be willing to pay extra to take care of the children.)
The Liberal's clarion call is to go after the top 1% earners in this country. To tax them at a different rate than anyone else simply because they make scads more than anyone else is not a tax...it's a punishment for being bloody rich, savvy businesspeople.

It's interesting that people are saying that conservatives have morals, and liberals would kill babies.... neither is true. It's more of an economic division, and anything else is a construct created to gain votes.
Conservatives believe in a totally free market. They believe that every individual should be able to keep all the money they earn themselves - and have no obligation to care for any other person unless they feel inclined. They believe that taxes are wrong - that the government is taking your money.
Liberals believe that a government should have regulation over public-use things, such as utilities, health care, etc. Liberals believe that taxes are the price you pay to live in a civilized society.
At this time in our history, there is a "religious right" movement that is trying to get religious people to vote conservative by blaming bad morals on liberals. There is the "green" movement on the liberal side that believes that it is appropriate to sacrifice people in favor of the environment. Neither of these movements has anything to do with the core beliefs of either side.
In short - conservatives stress individual freedom, while liberals stress common community good.

A liberal will save a tree and kill a baby.
A conservative will save a baby and kill a tree.
A liberal will curse the troops and defend the terrorist.
A conservative will curse the terrorist and defend the troops.
A liberal will burn a flag in the name of free speech.
A conservative knows that our flag represents free speech, and no one in their right mind should burn it.
A conservative also knows that burning flags, or crosses, or books, or effigies of people, is an attack on free speech, not the excercise of that freedom. It's something the Nazis and the Communists used to to to silence free speech.
Freedom of speech is not the same thing as freedom of expression. There is no such thing as "freedom of expresion." We have laws against profanity and public nudity, as well as vandalism, treason, and attempting to overthrow the government. None of those things are "free speech" either.
A liberal will hold candlelight vigils for mass murderers on death row.
A conservative will hold candlelight vigils for the victims of that murderer.
A liberal will tear crosses off of war memorials in the name of seperation of church and state.
A conservative defends crosses and other religious symbols because our constitution defends freedom of religion, not freedom FROM religion; a conservative also knows that seperation of church and state is not found in the United States constitution, but it is found in the constitution of the old Soviet Union.
A liberal defends the drug addict or the child molester and claims that they are victims.
A conservative defends those robbed or killed by drug addicts and those raped by child molesters.
