I think the word "Monkey" is the offending word. Why don't you tell people who use the word "Grease Monkey"..."Haven't you heard, the term for us is "Auto Man( or something else you like to be called) get with the program."

I grew up on a dairy. We did everything for ourselves, including vehicle repairs. Does the term grease monkey offend me? H##$% NO! To me it means that a person is actually capable of fixing things. Today's "mechanics" are actually technicians, or more precisely, computer technicians and trouble shooters. Most "mechanics today would not know how to change a Bendix...that's a starter drive for those of you who don't know. Most "mechanics" today, could not change the brushes in an alternator or change the diode pack in one. Nothing against them; they are paid to perform and to perform, you must get the job done quickly. This is known as parts changing. I fault the businesses for this. The techs are good, but they should be allowed to truly fix things...The term grease monkey is a term of endearment. That is what's wrong with this world today. Everyone is so caught up in what others think, they fail to perform to their full potential.

You are looking for something to offend you, and you have, of course, found it.

Quit worrying about the small stuff. Grow up. Get a life.

I hope this offends you too. You need to learn that not everything in this world is going to meet your standards. Either accept that or spend your life being offended. I do not care which you chose!

3 deep breaths.........................

The (pardon the phrase) Yahoos who refer to us as "Grease Monkeys" , hail us as "Heroes, Thank You Thank You Thank You" when we get their incredibly (and increasingly) complex vehicle systems running and purring again.

You are about to be a member of an elite cadre: People Who Really (No Sh*t, REALLY) Know About Cars. Congratulations. You will be lionized in a very short time.

"Grease Monkey"? Water off a duck's back (to mix animal metaphores).
I cannot resist: That BS you are earning is your ticket to a satisfying life........No BS!

No you shouldn't be offended, it is just a term used to refer to a mechanic. It's only an expression, you shouldn't let it bother you. Good luck..
