I have never been skiing because I feel it's too expensive, and I have only played golf twice, and that was on a cheap par 3 golf course.

Are these activities basically for the rich?

YES. The lift tickets cost a lot, and so does gas to and from the mountains.

Golf lessons and greens fees are usually quite pricey.

These are sports for people who are financially comfortable who can enjoy each other's company.

UNLESS you want to compete in them, in which case you spend a little money and practice, practice, practice as an obsession.

Skiing is one of the more expensive sports, but there are ways around the 'rich' thing. Like anything else, the best way to save is to go VOLUME. If you are committed to it, you can get a SEASON's pass, which, if bought early enough in the season, can cost as little as 1/5 of what 'paying as you go' might cost. There are also houses and clubs you can join which definitely take the "sting" out of paying for places to stay (for example, the "polecats" here in the Northeast). Lastly - equipment. Buy online or at the end of the season. You'll save some big money that way...

Not necessarily; but obviously the less money you have, the more you will have to sacrifice in order to golf or ski.

Rich people can afford to golf, ski and pursue other hobbies. Someone who is lower middle class would probably treat either skiing or golfing as an exclusive hobby.

Yes, skiing is expensive, but, if you save up enough money, it's definitely worth it. As for golf, I know many people who go golfing who are not filthy rich. Once again, save up...or you can always try to find a friend who works there who can get you in with a discount : )

Mostly rich people do those sports, but that doesn't mean it's restricted to only rich people. There are plenty of cheap, bring-your-own board ski spots, and golf course that are like 10 bucks an hour.

They are only as expensive as you want them to be.

If you go with a ski club for a "Learn To Ski" day trip, you will pay about $75 for the transportation, equipment, lift tickets and lessons.

If you buy a ski out cabin at a resort, buy the top of the line clothing and equipment, and annual lift tickets, then that can get expensive.

For fun ski clubs in your area, check out the National Brotherhood of Skiiers. You don't have to be African American to join.

I used to play a lot of golf...never got very good at it. Very fun to play....but it can get expensive if you practice at the driving range and go about once a week.

I am not rich and my friends and I all ski and snow board. It can cost a little more then other sports but when you are doing something you love money doesn't matter.

they are both expensive but definitely not only for the rich. If you only go once and a while it is expensive but once you've got all your own gear it gets much cheaper. And there are almost always great deals on lift tickets and greens fees; you just have to look for them.
