1st to Punny812 it took Suzuki 20 some years to come up with a bike to beat the most powerful fastest stock production bike ever made.
The 1985 V-max was the fastest stock bike made for actually 13 years or so.
I remember owning mine and riding with zx1200's and Cbr 1000's a few gsx-r 750's, 1 honda sabre, a 600 fazor (mini max)
Ok, being only cruiser type when I 1st got this bike my friends laughed so sitting at the stoplight (the year 1995) bikes all had about 9K on them and mine being the oldest a 1985 and the rockets were 93 and 94's ok so sitting at the stop light all of us holding the RPM's around redline, now think about this how easy is a rocket to ride a wheelie ? Pretty easy, ive had a few. Now when a v-max launches from stop you can't touch it, tell me how a zx1200 holding 9,000 r's can launch without lifting it's tire. It can't so no matter how they tried no bikes could touch my Max from stoplight to stop light.
Ok, so they thought this big tank obviously can't hit a top end. Ok so my bikes speeddoe broke at 167 mph and no-one is in sight, now if you have never been up past 140 no matter what bike you got you'd better push as hard as you can to add more stability to the front wheel.
Ive owned a FJ1200, ZX9, kawasaki 1200 , eliminator, 600 special, seca 750, nighthawk, vulcan1500, and a load of dirt bikes.
The most important factor in going top speeds is who's not afraid to hit speeds that will scare the hell out of you.
Ive beaten people with my seca 750' when they had much bigger faster, powerful bikes.
Im also not being a cock and saying im the best ridere and such , just telling a story but out of all the bikes ive owned I liked the Max and the Seca.
Oh by the way the bike that gave me the most trouble with all my riding friends was the 600 raiden or fazor whatever it was, it was quick stoplight to stoplight bike amazingly quick for a 600.
Wish I would of never sold the v-max, I now ride a 1500 vulcan and get beat by most everyone but it's not a speed bike.
When I finally got rid of the max alot of new style bikes were coming out.
Oh yeah and the max cannot handle well but if you can throw some muscle and weight around it is rideable in the corners you just aren't gonna go peg down. So all the riders started to ride all the curved and slolam roads we had, but it just made me more nuts, so I could still beat about half the pack but wasn't gonna die on the bike to take 1st.

I had a 1993 Vmax with an engine that was heavily modified when new. Different cam, larger polished carbs and a Vance Hines exhaust.
That was the best sounding MC I ever heard-sounded like a small block Chevy with headers.
I bought it from a friend of mine after he had it for 2 years and heonly put 3500 miles on it.
I had it for 3 years and sold it with about 10,000 miles on it to a friend of my sisters. The price was right.
He had it about 2 weeks and wrecked it.
I wish I never sold it but I also had a Harley and did not want both
I was told the top speed was around 170MPH
I never had it over 140MPH
But that was in the City of Pittsburgh PA!!!

NO
There is an outfit in CA that is building diesel motor cycles that get outragious mileage and since you can make bio-diesel at home for free from used cooking oil or even animal oil then I want that one.
See ya on the side of the road when the gas runs out, or is like $50 a gallon.
Diesels will be the only vehicles left ( since GM sunk the electric car )

NO, it doesnt handle, even when modified. It is VERY exciting to ride though, particularly if roads have a few bumps or even a slight curve
