I have my tank in an AC room--wherever you put it, dont keep changing the site you have it in-THAT is when the chance of getting ick elevates. Goldfish can canle fairly cold water--I never used heaters in their tanks

Are they in a bowl or in a heated tank? The temperature of the room itself is not important; instead you should check the temperature of the water. The best water temperature range for most fresh water tropical aquariums is between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, BUT goldfish are not tropical fish and like cooler water so I would guess between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Fresh water fish tend to do better in cooler water anyway. So as long as your bedroom is not an ice box I would say they should be fine in the AC, but still, check the water temp. Also, keep in mind that drastic temperature changes are not good for any type of fish.
I did some research because I wanted to make sure I was right... I would feel absolutely horrible if something happened to your fish because of me... anyway, turns out the best water temp range for goldfish is 50-68 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a nice large tank, fancies need 15 gallons each, and commons need 100s, an ac bedroom is good. Obviously you'll need a quiet filter, try looking for eheims, though the filstar line of canisters is quiet, just not silent. You will need a heater, just in case, a few watts per gallon is ok, just enough so that in case there is a temp drop the tank wont freeze. Goldfish are cold water and appreciate a temp of 68-72. Finally, make sure your house can handle it. Most bedrooms are upstairs. Still, unless you have an acient house, or a tank over 75 gals or so, you'll be fine

Goldfish do better in cooler water then in water that gets pretty warm.
I've seen some ponds in the winter freeze over and the goldfish were still swimming under the ice and they were also still alive when the ice melted.
So I would say they are safer in the cooler water rather then the warmer water. If the water gets above 80 degrees this can be dangerous to them.

Gold fish like the tank water to be no cooler than 75 degrees, and no warmer than 80 degrees. They can handle the water being slightly warmer than that, but not much.
You can keep them anywhere as long as help maintain this temperature for them. This very well might included cooling of the water daily if they are in your living room, or turning the aquarium heater if they are in the bedroom. If either becomes the case, do so slowly because, even though goldfish are a hardy fish, they and acquire what is called "itck" very easily by raising or lowering the temp. too fast. I cool off my goldfishes tank by dropping in three or four ice cube out of the freezer. That is usually sufficient and not too hard for me to remember to do..
Gold fish are not being difficult by needing their tank water temps. just right, actually, the reason that they thrive in cooler water than your common aquarium fish, is because of the strength and the amount of their pee pee and poo poo. Their urine has a lot of ammonia in it and at warmer temps would be like taking a bath in acid for them. They can poop as much as a baby elephant I swear, and once again, the cooler temps avoid enabling bacterial colonies from forming and giving your little fish a nasty, fatal disease. For fish, their tank environment is to them like our intracellular fluid is to our cells and us. Your fish can be proud they have a human like you that thought about this.

My goldfish were on the Corian countertop of my kitchen about 3 feet from the sink, and away from the heating appliances...kitchen was usually at 70 degrees most of the time. They lived happily for quite a while.....

Hmmmm. Too many people giving poor advice. Goldfish like cool water. I breed them, and believe me, during the summer months, it's best to keep them in the coolest place you can find. They are very hardy in cooler temperatures, and even thrive in icy water. In outdoor ponds, they can survive a deep freeze, and breed better in cooler temperatures. They are assuredly NOT tropical fish!
