I'm not sure how old you suppose to be, but I assume for sure is when you start experiencing sexual relations. I think if it was my first time I would probably want a woman doctor because they could relate. Tell your doctor it's your first exam and that you are scarred. Planned parent hood is also a good place because they usually explain every thing that is happening. But it is an exam that you should have and try to relax, it's not as bad as you might think it is.

If you are not sexually active, you can wait until around age 18 or 19 to go.
If you are sexually active, start going now.
It may help if you take your mom, or a trusted female friend who has been to the gynecologist before.
Think about the fact that this is something the doctor does everyday, she is not judging any part of your anatomy. Some parts of the exam are uncomfortable, but not usually painful.

Well unless you are having some sort of problems you really don't need to go until you become sexually active. And then I would go before, birth control!!!!!!!! It is a very scarey thing at first. But its really not as bad as you build it up in your head to be. Granted its not something you want to do everday but you will survive. The best advise I could give you would be to just breath. Try not to tense up and the doctor will usually try to talk to you about something to help take your mind off what is going on so talk to them. If they ask you a question answer it. It does help.
