15 cents a kilowatt, as I recall
It's going to depend on how hot it is outside (some parts of CA are quite cool all summer, others blazing hot), and how cool you like it inside.

Obviously too many variables, however, I am in L.A. My house is approx. 1500 square feet & two stories. Therefore one of the most expensive types of home to cool. If I were to run the A/C all the time to keep my home at 68F, it would probably cost around $400/mo. HOWEVER I have small fans in each room. they are on only when occupied. Also, I have planted trees around the house for shade. I also have installed solar panels on the south-facing roof. So bottom line, I spend about $40/month for all my electric needs. When the solar panels collect more energy than I need, my meter runs BACKWARD, and I sell that electricity to the power company.
