Not all Americans are Christian and believe in a Christian God so why do all Americans have to say this anyways.

Between 1924 and 1954, the Pledge of Allegiance was worded:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

In 1954, during the McCarthy era and communism scare, Congress passed a bill, which was signed into law, to add the words "under God." The current Pledge reads:

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands; one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Since there should be separation between church and state, the phrase should definatley be taken out. Not everyone believes in God.

I am also a Gay Liberal Christian Baptist FYI. shocking huh?

I don't think it should be removed, and no one is forcing you to say it either. Not all Americans are Christians but we are a nation founded on Christian values. If you don't believe there is a God is it hurting you for those who do to say it?

Nobody is obligated to say any part of the Salute to the Flag. And nobody has to say the "Under God" part. But that isn't the objectionable part to my way of thinking.

I am offended by the part that says, "With Liberty and Justice For All." That is offensive to me because there never has been, and probably never will be, "Liberty and Justice for All."

God is the English word for what Germans call Gott and Muslims call Allah and other people have their own words for Him. That isn't a problem.

I just have a problem with the last five words.

i think it should be left alone..i thought america was built based on christian beliefs at first. plus that part is now part of history in the pledge so i think that should stay put. just because some people dont believe in God doesnt mean that christians have to tip toe around their beliefs to make others happy..they can say to take it out because they dont believe or whatever but we can turn around and say y not put it back in...thats my opinion! yay!

No one is compelled to say the Pledge of Allegiance, and if you do choose to say the Pledge, you are free to skip right over those words, should you feel it important to do so.

So, no. I don't think the words need to be removed, and I think it is one of the biggest NON-issues for people to waste time on.

I think so. It would be far more accurate to say we are one nation "under gods" (be they Christian, Hindu, Muslim, etc.). Of course, that still doesn't include the atheists, so best just to scrap it all together. The Supreme Court wussed out the last time this issue came before them, but when it makes it's way back, they are probably going to have no choice but to remove it....

Since when is "under God" Christian?
Is Allah not God?
Is Yahweh not God?
Is Budda not God?
Is Ra not God? The pledge doesn't say "under Jesus".
It's not even SAID in 75% of schools.
I, for one, think we have forgotten our higher power far too much and the children of today should have some God in their lives.

Not me. God is not just a Christian God, He is the Alpha and the Omega, He is the Creator, He is Everlasting, He is who is and always will be. Believe in Him or not, God is God.

Not all Americans do have to say it. In fact, that's the great thing about this country, it's 100% your choice!

Just like it should be left there for freedom of speech, another thing guaranteed by our constitution. If you don't like it, then don't say it, no one will make you. BUT, to say that others CAN'T say it is to take away their freedom of speech.
