Clowns take everything we know about how to percieve people, and they turn it upside down.
When you hear the whap-whap-whap of those big floppy shoes, you get the willies because inside those shoes you imagine big floppy feet.
Then there's the pasty white face, red glob of a nose, black-ringed eyes blown like a tweaker on a two-week run, lipsticked mouth spread from ear to ear, hair like a cheap shag rug.
Human characteristics exaggerated into something eerily non-human. And what's the baggy-pantsed being thinking? You can't read a clown's facial expression behind the painted-on friendliness. Worse yet, some of them are silent, like big polkadotted mimes.
In short, all our usual people-reading cues are useless. So if we don't know who clowns really are or what they're thinking, then anything is possible. The usual rules don't apply. Some people interpret this as fun, others get the screaming meemies.
Little kids, who have only a shaky notion of reality and fantasy to begin with, can be particularly vulnerable. More than one tot visiting the Happiest Place on Earth has been accosted by a five-foot-tall Mickey Mouse and thrown up on his shoes.

I never really had a problem with clowns until I watched an episode of Dr. Who where the clowns were evil. They all had pointy hats and wore only black and white. They were tall and skinny and looked like crayons. They didn't have the typical clown makeup on (the ones I always saw and were familiar with were all red yellowblue and green.....these british clowns were white faced but with black only details like diamonds and tear drops. It bothered the hell out of me and since then, when I see clowns I immediately think of the Dr. Who clowns and ick out.
I think what a lot of the hysteria about clowns is that they are completely not normal looking. Sure sure they have two eyes, a nose and a mouth....but the make up on them is so exagerated. Gigantic lips or huge eyes. I mean I know they are supossed to be colorful for the kids and all but carnival clowns just don't look human. And that in and of itsself can be frightening.

It's our ancient fear of false idols in past lives. When the Great Flood so many of our ancestors talk about came it also shorted out a lot of the Earth's electric field. This was a plead from the highest priests to God, because the spirits that existed in our natural electric field were controlling the people, leading them in the wrong direction and getting the people to do things for them.
This is why false idol worship was one of the greatest sins, while many other things you would think are worse are still lower sins. Some Biblical king rounded up all the prophets and wizards and locked them up in a cave. Anyways, we remember these times from our past lives. Clowns and dolls freak us out so much because of their human-like eyes, and we almost feel like this doll is going to tell us something.

Most Clowns don't just entertain people, they put all there happiness in that act and at the end there is nothing left for them. I think that some people can feel that clowns are only happy when they wear there funny suits and some Clowns can't even be happy at all.

I'm afraid of clowns. I think it is because they are so disguised under all their face paint and wig that you cannot tell what the person underneath the costume looks like. Clowns don't look like real people, yet they move and act in the same manner as humans do. Creepy!

Because you don't know what is really behind the makeup. They have, in a sense, a mask on and you can't really tell what they are thinking because you can't get a true look at their facial expressions. Also it is a way for bad people to be perceived as good and funny, only to gain access to unsuspecting victims.

I think it's because we honestly don't believe that someone could be that cheerful 24 hours a day whilst having whitewash spread over their faces and water poured down their trousers.
Anyone who does enjoy this should seek immediate professional help.
