Black goes with everything. You should not be matching your shirt but should be complementing your skin tones or accentuate them. Start by finding out if you are a winter , summer , or fall person then go accordingly. The all over glow look is in right now, just find something the works on your complexion. Remeber if someone says great make-up that is NOT a compliment.

day or night
blue or brown eyes

If you have brown eyes, a medium green in your crease would be great.
If you have blue eyes, a brick colour in your crease would look good, as long as it's not too dark.

The dark shirt with a dark eye shadow will emphasize a "black eye" look.
If you go with a medium colour with a lighter eye lid or eye liner colour, it'll be your best bet.
Day vs. night: just make it a little bit more dramatic.
