Your advice may be the best in the world in your eyes, but if someone sees things differently or is not in the same place as you emotionally, they may not appear to listen. You would be surprised though, it sometimes appears that someone does not listen to advice (which is their right to accept or reject any advice), and later on - even years later - they decide to follow part or all of it after awhile or it helps them to come to a good solution anyway even though they did not do what was suggested. Just because they don't do what you said it does not mean they did not listen to you. Oh - don't give advice if a person does not ask for it.

Our "faithful" friends would say Free Will; I'd say who the heck knows! The human animal is a complex machine, full of chemical-driven/generated emotions/responses! :-)
P.S. Although I might add, the way you present an idea to someone (i.e. your psychological and marketing/sales approach) will have a lot to do with the desired outcome. If your desire is for people to listen to your "advice" (be it they actually need it or not), then you must mount a better and more convincing strategy to influence their minds into initiating the desired action. In other words, in one form or another, it all boils down to YOU and your effectiveness in handling the situation.

This questions says it all. You shouldn't give advice, you should help people understand their problems by exploring them with them. The best way to help people is to listen more; that's why we have two ears and one mouth.
Other people are not so dumb that they cannot figure it out themselves; quite often they just need to externalise their feelings to a sounding board.

They do not believe you have the knowledge to offer useful advise. Talk is cheap but since you have not set the world on fire they doubt the value of what you tell them. People follow successful images not common place friends.

Because of personal pride. As a rule of thumb just don't give advice to anyone unless they ask you to. It's a universal rule. Just let people be and find a way to tolerate their deviations.

maybe they dont see a reason to trust your judgement, maybe they have not seen your advise work out before for them to know to trust you with stuff like that, it is not unheard of people dont always like to take other peoples advise , all you can do is offer it and if they take it good, if not , let it go. good luck!
