Nope, not a simple question at all, given all the great talent that Motown provided for grateful listeners. Class acts..each and every one.

But my CHOICE is simple. I'm going with The Four Tops. My reason..only one...Levi Stubbs. Let's face it, harmonizing does take talent, but the front man is the one who makes the difference. As unique a voice as any thats come out of the Motown sound. (plus the fact that "I Can't Help Myself" and "Ask the Lonely" rank right up there in MY "favorite songs of all time")

This is a very simple question. there is no comparison to marvin gaye who was by far the best motown singer of all time. He has left the most lasting affect on music with songs such as inner city blues, ain't no mountain high enough, and Let's get it on. His song that left the largest lasting affect would have to be What's Goin On? Marvin Gaye was the first internationally reknowned RnB artist and he was also one of the first singers to include social commentary in his lyrics, which went on to influence another motown great, Stevie Wonder.

The Temptations.

I'll give you five good reasons. One, two, three, four, and five. I would have put the Drifters and Platters up, but I'm not sure if they were major, and the Drifters were mainly 50's, weren't they? And I'm not sure if they're from Motown either.
