No, it happens in real life, too, and it is usually a disaster. Everyone in both families is opposed to the relationship.

Both people will find out terrible things about human nature that they never wanted to know. It is VERY UNLIKELY they will remain in love with each other.

First there isn't many places for the classes to mix, and still get to know each other. Second, most people aren't comfortable with bucking the system. You're a nice jewish boy you usually marry a nice jewish girl. You're from old money you marry old money. People that change class usually marry people from their original class. I'm not being racist, creedist, or even sexist. There are expectations placed on you by your peers and your family, even if you acknowledge these and say they won't have power over you, these expectations still influence what you do. Blue collar and white collar only work in movies because it isn't real. It's the whole Cinderella complex, but even Cinderella was a noble woman socially worthy of the Prince--she was just treated like a servant. Parlor maids don't marry Dukes--it's classist but that doesn't make it less true. Finally, there's too much prejudice, and fear of the unknown on both sides for it be any other way.

You got both speakers hooked up on that stereo(type)? It happens every day. What do you think most of those trophy wives are that rich guys have hanging on their arms? Physicists? They're dumb blondes from white trash families who wouldn't have made it into community college if they didn't look the way they do.

Actually, what you say is true. The inverse can also be asked. Why does trailer trash only fall in love with other trailer trash? They live in different worlds, that's why.

It only happens in the movies because the baby boomers have taught their children not to marry lower than their families social status. Which is quite a shame considering everyone has someone out there that is their one & only, whether it be lower class, middle class or upper class.

Because in real life, there is no one below anyone else educational or social status, there are only people dumb enough to believe that garbage.

One reason is because you have to be equally yoked in a relationship. If you are ahead of the other person in knowledge or finances, they can drag your finances down, and take away from improving your life, as you improve their life. If you slow down to let that person get ahead, you have put yourself aside, and sooner or later, you will have to get that back, sometimes at the cost of a divorce.
It does happen in real life, but it can lead to big mistakes, and lots of heartache. A few of them work out just fine. It really depends on the individuals involved in the relationship.

Because in "real life" there are very few people who will stop long enough to get to know someone who would be considered below their status. We live in a very selfish world... it's all about US!!!

I don't think it just happens in movies!! But then again, I don't think ANYONE is below your social status. I am in love with someone who is from Cambodia...and he is still equal to me; it wasn't his fault that his country was torn apart by war & Pol Pot and things like that.

Because to tell you the truth no one in real life is like that to fall in love with someone lower than them. Like rich people they don't care about others and don't have enough time only for their money and people who are as rich as them, so there proves it that in real life even if you are rich you would never fall for someone poorer because rich people don't care .

It happens in real life too, its called "downdating". The reason you may not notice it much is that people will go out of their way to hide the fact that their partner is socially/intellectually "beneath"them.
