My son is about a month old and it's really hot here... He seems to have a case of baby acne, but just within the last 2 days, the 'pimples' I see have spread to his chest. My father in law says it looks like heat rash. Is there anything else it could be?

I would definitely take the baby to the pediatrician. There isn't anyone on Yahoo that is going to be able to tell you for sure what it could be.

If he didn't have the rash before the weather turned hot It is probably a heat rash.To keep him comfortable be sure to keep an eye on his neck area, young babies tend to have heat rash on the front of the neck ,because they can't hold their head up yet and in the heat they will sweat and not much air can get in that area to dry it up.
Baby acne is very common. It can be present at birth, but more often it shows up after a couple of weeks, usually on the cheeks and sometimes on the forehead, chin, and even the back. These small whiteheads might be surrounded by reddish skin, and they can become more pronounced when your baby is hot or fussy, or if his skin is irritated by saliva, spit-up milk, or fabric that's been washed in strong detergent.

By the way, if your baby had tiny bumps on his face at birth that disappeared within two weeks, these are called milia and are unrelated to acne. If his breakout looks more rashy or scaly than pimply, or if it appears elsewhere on his body, he may have another condition, such as cradle cap or eczema.
Try washing all his clothes using baby Ivory Snow laundry detergent or Dreft Baby laundry detergent.avoid using any chlorine bleach. If you really need to bleach run the clothes through a second short wash with no detergent .When my kids were babies in the summer I'd only put the diaper on them then wet a washcloth in "warm water" and lay it over their body as the cloth cools his body can adjust gradually to the coolness. As he gets older in a month or so,he'll enjoy playing with the cool clothDon't put baby oil on your baby,it clogs the pores and if it is applied over the back and chest can create difficulty breathing. You can do a test on yourself to see the effects.I never knew this and always pot the baby oil on my baby's,then one summer it was pretty hot.I used baby oil to speed up my tanning and within a few minutes in the sun I couldn't breathe. Try to stay calm,I know that isn't easy with new borns! Your in laws give good advice, don't hesitate to call on Grandma and Grandpa, Best wishes to you and your New Baby "CONGRATS"

yeah it could be heat rash, especially if it has been really hot. try and keep the baby cool by wiping him down with a cool(not cold) cloth every so often. do not try and mess with the pimples, baby will heal fast. this is very common in newborns. go ahead and let the baby lay in just a diaper when you are at home. the other alternative is that you could be using a detergent on his clothes that his body is sensitive to, if this is the case try to get a hypoallergenic or baby detergent, it would help with that. take your baby to the doctor if he doesn't get better after a few days without being so hot or if develops a fever. best wishes

Keep him cool with light cotton shirts and use heat rash powder which is baby powder with ingredients for heat rash. Do not put any of this or any product on his face without consulting a doctor, or pharmacist. Leave his face alone just keep him cool.

what you see on the face is milia and is normal, however, the other may be a heat rash, but it would be a fine rash with no white areas, just tiny red bumps. Are you washing his clothes in dreft or ivory and rinsing well. Are you using a mild soap like ivory or baby magic baby wash. When you bathe him make sure you rinse him well and apply powder.Try Amens medicated powder,it is wonderful.Don't put anything on his face.Just wash with warm water and baby washcloth.Just keep him in a diaper. If this doesn't help give your pediatrician a call.

It probably is heat rash, but he may also be allergic to the soap or laundry detergent you use. Let him go without a shirt for a while, and some baby powder might help.

It's probably baby acne, this is really common in newborns.

I've always used, and my ped still recommends Johnson's baby bath bar. Not the body wash, buy the little white bar of soap.

If this doesn't work, give your doctor a call.

hmmm i wud take this more seriously.
my little one started the outburst at her 2nd week and everyone said its perfectly normal blah blah... then it worsened within a week's time then i took her to the doc to realise that she had "Atopic dermatitis" or Eczema :( by the time i took her it had spread a lot and my girl wud cry uncontrolebly for it used to itch a lot! Poor thing.
So just to rule any possibility of Eczema or any other skin allergies it be a gud idea to take her to doc.
