When the door is closed, the insulating rubber gasket that is on the edges of the door seals the gap between the closed door and the refrigerator perfectly. This does not allow the cold air to escape out and at the same time prevents the entry of insects and 'roaches in side.
This soft gasket gets hardened over the years and does not perform the desired function properly.
So change this gasket or lining of the fridge door.
Some doors have magnetic seals for the same purpose. If your fridge has one check and replace it.
This will solve your problem.

First of all, switch off the fridge and empty all the stuff from it. clean out the fridge very well with a mild detergent water, especially the layering on the side of the fridge door inside, which is the proper thriving area of cockroaches. once you have cleaned with some solution, dry out the entire area and wipe inside the layering area with nail polish remover solution. make sure all the cockroaches as well as the eggs have been wiped away and the fridge is real real clean now. you can switch it on now and load it. make sure that you do not leave any food item open in the fridge ever, even left over food, keep it covered with a plate. dont leave any food item open inside the fridge for the cockroach to feed on. spray insecticide under the fridge to avoid cockraoches entering the fridge during a power cut. every week check within the layering to see if there are any cockroaches hiding. once you have cleaned the fridge and removed all the cockroaches, take care to avoid the attack in future.

You might want to check the seal around the refrigerator door, I'm sure you keep the door closed. If the seal is defective then insects will have a way in.
Also, to rid your home of roaches, my mother taught me to use boric acid powder around appliances, for roaches,
it gets on their feet and they clean their feet then the acid is taken back to their young and kills them all....
Hope this helps, and good luck, they are hardy creatures.

Is this really a big issue for you? Try some of the suggestions posted. If thtat doesn't work, abandon your fridge for an Earth diet. Everthing you eat will be of the land. Sticks, rocks. leaves... all are good to the Earth conscious.

The smart answer is to close the door...but a thin layer of vaseline will do the trick....wipe it off once a week with dish washing soap and reapply.

If you have roaches, first you need to call and exterminator to have the entire premises sprayed to kill them. Secondly, before the exterminator gets there, don't open the refrigerator, the roache might get cold if he gets locked in there
