1B - Lou Gehrig. Probably the greatest pure hitter ever. Strongest spirit to hit the diamond ever.

2b - Sandburg Still waiting for that one great 2nd baseman to appear. Mazeroski was prob the best defensively. Morgan could hit and steal bases. Was sure handed if he got to the ball but he had the range of a wounded buffulo. Biggio is a great defensive 2nd baseman, good hitter. Just not good enough at either to really take the spot. Hornsby a great hitter. Nap Lajoie and Collins the same.
Sandburg was awesome deffensively and offensively but lasted only 10 years. I took him for lack of a better option. Carew and Alomar were in the hunt as well.

SS - Luis Aparicio Had to go with defense here. So much offense with the rest of the team. Wagner and Ozzie Smith were almost the ones I picked. Wagner a great fielder, best of his era and easily greatest hitting SS ever. Smith better at the spectaculer play, stole lots of bases but not as consistant as Aparicio. Brinkman and Ripkin also were considered.

3b - George Brett. Brooks Robinson best defense. Only Nettles was in same league as Brooks with the glove and Brooks blew Nettles away. Mathews and Schmidt were pretty much equal offensively and the best offensively. Brett was the best combination of defense and offense. Brett and Brooks were also the only team leaders out of the group. So I went with Brett narrowly over Brooks.

C - Yogi Berra. One of the all time greats if not the best defensive catcher ever. Decent bat, best clutch hitter ever from what I hear.
OF - Ruth. Who can top the Bambino for power and style?
OF - Aaron. Great all round player. Power, speed, defense. Prob the best all round player ever.
OF - Mickey Mantle speed, power, defense, spirit.
(Really hard to leave Ted Williams and Willie Mays off this list. Great defense, best student of hitting ever. Avg, power, clutch. )

SP - Cy Young
SP - Walter Johnson
SP - Christy Mathewson
SP - Warren Spahn
SP - Jim Palmer

Koufax had an awesome 4 year run. Gibson an awesome 2 year run but the ones I picked were awesome most of thier careers. Palmer produced almost as good stats in a time when hitters were more dangerous than ever before. Clemmens and Maddux are two others who I considered hard. Whitey Ford and Left Gomez are two of my favorites though.

Closer - Goose Gossage, he defined what being a closer was. Eck was prob better, Rivera at least as good. Goose though was the deffinition of a great closer.
