A fish or a snake/some reptile takes less care than some other pets. If you want something to play with or a good compainion get a dog, a cat, or a bird. they are always good if you need something (especially a dog because if you like have a fire at night or need something important ex. the phone then it can do it)Birds, cats, and dogs sometimes other pets can warn you and your family if there is a fire (at night), a stranger in the house, or something that is wrong

Do you want a pet that needs your attention? A Dog would fit you nicely. Do you want a cat that is independent of you, doesn't need your constant attention? A Cat fits the bill. A pet that looks cute but you don't have to pay attention to it at all except to clean out it living quarters? An aquarium full of fish would do nicely. But a cute Gerbil would be neat in a rolling ball, it may get underfoot, but it would be cute.

Rodents: I adore Guinea pigs and Rats. Rats are active, are smart and are no dirtier than a gerbil or hamster. They're less likely to bite than a hamster and they love love LOVE attention!

I'm new to guinea pigs. I find them flighty, but fun to communicate with :-) besides, they're super duper cute!

Birds: I have owned seven species of bird and my three favorites are the conures, cockatiels and Japanese quail. Quail aren't super smart, but they're fun to interact with. Their eggs are edible, plus they'll eat just about anything!

Conures are smaller with lots of attitude. Some species can be very loud, like the Patagonian and sun conures, but they've been compared to puppies. Many species will lay on their backs while playing and gleefully scream their heads off while beating up their toys. Many species will talk. They're not the best talkers in the world, but their attitude makes up for that!

Cockatiels are easily one of the most docile parrots out there. They produce a lot of dust that might aggravate someone's allergies, but they're sweet, sometimes learn to talk and love to be where the action is!

Dogs: These guys are easily one of my favorite pets. They're more interactive than cats and most breeds can learn sports like agility and fly ball. I grew up with whippets, which look like small greyhounds. My family used to race them in the early 1990's. It was a blast!

Cats: I have three but they're not my favorite critters. I admit they do have their own charm. If it wasn't for my cats, I'd still have that horrid mouse infestation my landlord wouldn't take care of >.< . I also love opening the can of cat food at treat time because all three cats will practically teleport from their napping spots to see what's being served, LOL!

Fish: Simple to care for (well, in most regards), easy to feed and a load of fun to watch! These guys are great if you have a small amount of space and love to watch your pets. The down side is that they can't be petted and walked. :-|

Reptiles: I hear bearded dragons and Leopard Geckos are the best as reptiles go, especially if you're new to reptile owning. I plan on a Leopard gecko in the future. I especially love the albinos!

If this is your first pet, I strongly recommend a dwarf hamster. They're easy to care for, and plus, they're cute! ^^ Their cage only needs to be cleaned twice a week, and you can leave them on vacations with a large bowl of food and a clean cage. If not, they're easy to take along, too.
Other benefits are that they're really fun to play with. (I recomend sitting with the hamster in a dry bathtub, so if it wriggles free, he cannot escape. If you have only a shower, a deep sink works too.) Also, they're hilarious antics in the hamster ball are so cute. And last, you don't have to search around the yard for their poop, like dogs. O.o

I myself have a dwarf hamster. His name is Sukijo. He is so funny. Have fun choosing a new pet!

This is probably your first pet, so I'd say a short haired cat should do it. Try a Siamese and if you can get it, a Russian Blue.

If you have allergies, a bird like a Cockatiel would be excellent

Depends on your personality. I personally have a cat, dog and bunny right now. I love them all. Do the research and look at all your options as well as your space and what you would like to do with your pet.

Get a medium- sized, young, male Californian rabbit! They're cute, friendly, and not high maintenance at all.
