The landlord doesn't have (or want) one, friends are out of town a lot and I don't trust my neighbors.

My current housekey is on the chain with my car key, so if I'm locked out of the house I'm locked out of the car.

Any suggestions, other than the above and work?

I keep a spare house key under a potted plant on my back patio. A large watch dog out there ensures that no one with any brains will venture back there to snoop around without finding themselves in big trouble!!

I keep a spare car key in a zippered compartment in my wallet. I NEVER leave my wallet in the car, so if I do lock my main bundle of keys inside the car, I have the extra key in my wallet. I have passed this idea onto my daughter and her friends and it has saved them many a call to AAA for help. A house key could go in the wallet as well of course..

Make a copy, and just hide it somewhere outside that you think is a good place. They do make those fake rock key holders and stuff like that now, but you should be able to find something without that.
How about getting one of those magnetized key holders that people put under their car somewhere (like in the wheel well)?
Or put a potted plant out there, and stick the key around there somewhere. Or a statue.

One caution if you don't trust your neighbors: if you have to reach to the hidden key to use it, then hide it someplace else after that. They may have seen you picking it up.

You can buy those little boxes with the magnet on back to stick the key under your car. Of course, that is assuming that your address is not anywhere obvious. I keep my registration card hidden in a locked glove compartment so if anyone ever found that extra key, they wouldn't have immediate access to my address.

Go to Walmart or Kmart, and get a magnetic key holder. You put a key in it then hide it somewhere on your car, say under a tire well. If locked out, reach up get the key and your in.

Go to an auto store and see about getting a magnetic key box that you can put the key in and slip under the tire well of your car. They are really great - just don't let anyone see you doing it.

I have a small combination lock box made especially for keys. It is attached to the side of the tree house, it could be attached any where as it can't be opened and is heavy enough that it can't be broken into. You must unlock the door to screw it to whatever you want to attach it to, so your key is always safe.

I would keep one in under the car, on one of those magnetic key keepers.

Or, locate a rock in the garden, and put it under there in a plastic baggie. (Do this at night so your neighbors dont see you!)...

Dont put one over the door way, or under the mat...or around the door, as thieves look for these things.

I wish you well..

How about leaving the key at your work place?

make two copies of both keys, and then put one set (one car key and one house key) with you at all times, and one at home. But if you are way to forgetful (no offense) then make 4 copies and but one set at home, one set in the car, and two sets with you.
