What causes a couple who has been married a long time to get divorced instead of divorcing in say the first 10-15 years of marriage?

People change over time. you have different goals and ideas at 50 than you did at 20. Sometimes you just develop in different ways and it's time to part. Retirement can split some people up, when they're used to going to work every day, then suddenly have to spend a lot of time with someone they find they hardly know.

Women today are immediate gratification creatures. They think for the moment. The courts today play to the poor pitiful woman making it easy to get a divorce. They do really well in divorce. You loose 1/2 of your house, 1/2 of your pension and 1/2 of anything else you have aquired in the marriage. If you have kids under 18 then you can expect to pay 20% of your net income in child support. If your married for a long time you can expect to possibly pay alimony (notice that the root word is "money").

It's benifical for women to get a divorce. They hold all of the cards (especially if their is kids involved).

Depends I guess...

My grandpa was married for 32 years and he said he cheated and wanted a divorce cause he wanted to live the last 10 years of his life happy with no worries whatsoever.

sometimes parents get divorced after such along time, is because they try to stay together for the sake of their children. I know because my parents divorced when I was 31 years old.

Marriage is something you have to work at everyday. If you let the relationship slide the love can fade.

incompatibility, unhappiness, cheating - you could have been married 30 years - and think you were happy and then find out the other one was cheating

I guess it's because one of them just thinks that something is wrong, and she/he just know that it's finally just not meant to be, because they have a lots of problems with each other.
