Was the US like Europe before?

Yes-we did not always dress this way. It used to be that women wore long dresses- think Victorian era and Little House on the Prairie. Things didn't really start changing until the Flappers. I believe that was around the 1920's. This was the era of short dresses. Of course, people still showed respect by dressing in their Sunday Best for church. It seems that with each decade that goes by, we show more and more skin, and pay more and more for the little bit of clothing that still covers us! I mean really- between tank tops and thong underwear, I don't know why some women bother to dress at all. I for one keep my digity and respect by covering what is meant to be covered.

yes it was kinda like Europe before. Well, the reason is that places have different traditions and rules so that means that the Churches must too! Many Churches have dress codes and several European countries' churches do . Also Some Churches are more deeper in faith than other so at least in dressing... so that means that they must dress correctly and cover up more places.women must dress more respectively in European churches churches so that men can pay more attentively to the mass.

When in Rome ....
We must realize that one country is different than the next. And we should respect there cultural differences. The US is not the same as every other country and rightfully so. To visit or live in another country and not understand their culture is just rude. It's a good idea to do some research and ask questions about proper manners. Even the US you can't do some things.

Ninja Bass, a tank top to church is way out of place. And yes, women used to dress with decorum for church. What next?

Women who wear tank tops in church need some help. Most priests, reverends, etc will tell you not to in the beginning of the summer, so its flat out rude and disrespectful.

Times are changing and the US is less strict than Europe.
