Graduating and getting the frack out of there!
No, seriously. My best memories were the little things.
The class field days. I got to go to some pretty cool places. When I was in middle school in West Virginia I went to a coal mine (a 60 mile trip to a very big coal mine operation) and was taught all about coal mining.
One field trip that I looked forward to every year during my middle school years, was to a park that had a swimming pool and all kinds of games and food set up in the parks pavilions. I remember we didn't take any buses back then. Teachers would lead the children out of the school, and walk them about a mile down main street, past the fire station, to the city park. It was so much fun. How many people in school these days get to do that? Nearly zero, I bet.
I feel really lucky that I got to do those things when I was young. Of course, that was a in different time when you felt safe walking out your front door. Day or night. Not anymore. Sad.

Senior Day at the track. There was a squad of four teams, (Frosh, Soph, Junior and Senior) and we were to run a relay race, but to even it out, the Sophs started 20 yards behind the Frosh, The Juniors were 50 yards behind the Sophs and the Seniors were 110 yards back of the Juniors.
The person who was to be the third leg got sick at lunch and I was pegged to be that leg. When I got the baton, we were still 50 yards from the lead and I ran that lap like I was going to explode, somehow managing to close the gap to 25 yards.
The Anchor tore the crap out of the last lap and nipped the Junior runner at the finish line by a single yard.
I did my part.

Grade school and High school band.
I've been a musician most of my life and school band programs were the single best musical motivers that I've had.
My old grade school is in the middle of cutting their arts program and I gave a speech about the importance of keeping "the arts" in the curriculum. Unfortunately, it will probably fall on deaf ears.
